The Astros have now picked up a first basemen to add offence to their team. Carlos Pena is the answer. The team signed Pena to a one year, $2.9 MM deal. Pena did not have a great season last year after only hitting .197. He did hit 19 HR in his 600 PA.

Stephen Drew, the free agent shortstop, is now a Red Sox. He agreed to terms for a 1 year, $9.5 MM deal. He hit .223 with 7 HR in 327 PA. He was sidelined to an ankle injury for a part of last year's season with the Diamondbacks and A's last season. Drew will add an offensive boost to the Sox, who need to rebuild after last season's dissapointment.

In the previous article, I reported that R.A. Dickey was traded to the Blue Jays from the Mets. The 2012 Cy Young wanted a contract extention in the trade. So, under his terms he had to be signed by the Jays by Tuesday for the trade to go through. And it just happened. So, Dickey will now be with the Blue Jays. And everything is the previous article is now offical.

Phillies sign SP Lannan, RP Adams

The Phils added two veterans to their pitching staff today in John Lannan and Mike Adams. The Phils signed Adams, the former setup man for the Rangers, to a 2 year $12 MM deal with a vesting option for 2015. They also signed Lannan to a 1 year contract worth $2.5 MM.

The Phils filled two very important needs this Saturday in Lannan and Adams. Adams will definatley bolster that 8th inning before Papelbon and Lannan may be a starter in place of traded Vance Worley. Lannan may have to beat out rookie Tyler Cloyd for that 5th spot, assuming Kendrick gets the 4th spot. (Obivously Halladay, Lee, and Hamels are at the top of the rotation)
