Red Sox sign Ryan Roberts

The Boston Red Sox have signed infielder Ryan Roberts  to a one-year, $1 million Major League contract on Monday. Roberts can make $250,000 in incentives, and he will be in uniform for tonight's game against the Texas Rangers. Roberts opted out of his deal with the Chicago Cubs earlier this offseason. 

With Will Middlebrooks on the disabled list, the Red Sox will be getting much needed infield depth out of Roberts. The 33-year-old has spent the majority of his games in the field at third base. Roberts should definitely give the Red Sox something to work with. 

As for the offensive, Roberts has a career triple-slash line of .245/.321/.392 with 46 home runs and 169 RBI in 510 career games. Last season, with the Tampa Bay Rays, he hit .247/.295/.377 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI in 173 plate appearances. Roberts posted a 0.1 WAR in 2013 and has a career 5.9 WAR overall.
