- The Cincinnati Reds are prepared to move impending free agent pitchers Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake in advance of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Cueto, at least, will be in hot pursuit, as he is an ace and perhaps the best pitcher on the market. Many teams expect to be in on him because his price won't be as high as Cole Hamels' price. Leake, on the other hand, will have an even lower price, and could make sense for a team like the Royals.
- The Tigers, at least for now, are in "buy" mode. They still have 14 games between now and the 4 pm eastern July 31 trade deadline. Those 14 games could be the ultimate deciding factor in the Tigers' stance at the deadline. For the moment, David Price won't be on the market, but that could change very soon if they do not play well in the next two weeks.
