The Mets are showing interest in OF Shin-Soo Choo this offseason, as he is arguably a top five free agent when winter comes around. He has played well for the Cincinnati Reds this season, who had signed him to a 1 year, 7.38 million dollar contract. He has spent most of his career in Cleveland, where he played 7 years for the Indians.
Choo has played very well this season, posting a .291/.425/.472 line with a .347 BABIP and a 4.8 WAR. He's done a great job in the outfield as well, where he has posted a .991 fielding percentage manning center field this season. He also provides decent speed. Choo is 17-for-28 on stolen bases this season. His combination of speed, contact, and fielding makes him a good leadoff guy, which is where the Reds have been utilizing him this season.
The Mets have the 29th lowest OPS from leadoff guys this season, with a .621 mark. This is obviously a position in need, and Choo is definitely a great fit for what the Mets are looking for. He has done very well this season, and should be able to land a multi-year contract with whichever team he signs with. The Mets are looking to ink him coming this winter.
