Approximately 30 seconds after my story was finished on whether Matt Garza or Jake Peavy was a better pitcher, I found out that Matt Garza will not be making what appeared to be his last start as a Cub. He will be dealt to Texas, where he will be immediately thrown into contention, as the Rangers are second to the A's in the AL West. Here are the details of this blockbuster trade:
A similar deal was going to be completed a few days ago, but the Cubs had injury concerns for one of the prospects they would be receiving. The Rangers rotation will get another great arm, as they continue to put pressure on the rest of the AL West, and hope to catch the A's for first in the division.
The Cubs may have taken a few risks, but if everyone pans out on their side, this could be the move that is praised for getting the club back into contention. That is a few years away, however. Lefty Chris Rusin will get the start tonight for the Cubs against the Diamondbacks in place of Garza.
