With only 6 days to go until the regular season, teams must start preparing their roster. The St. Louis Cardinals have placed David Freese, Third Basemen and 2011 World Series Hero, on the Disabled List, due to injuries to his back. Freese, 29, had a .293/.372/.467 line last year with 20 HR and 79 RBI. This will majorly effect the Cardinals withou their all-star Third Basemen. The Cardinals carry two other Third Basemen on their roster.
3B Matt Carpenter: 27 Years Old 2012 Stats: .294/.365/.463, 6 HR, 46 RBI .950 FLD% in 33 Games at 3rd Base (114 total games) 2013 ST Stats: .333/.444/.483, 0 HR, 5 RBI 3B Ty Wigginton: 35 Years Old 2012 Stats (with Phillies): .235/.314/.375, 11 HR, 43 RBI .833 FLD% in 22 Games at 3rd Base (125 total games) 2013 ST Stats: .128/.212/.170 0 HR, 1 RBI Obivously, it looks like Carpenter will be the front-runner to play at 3rd while Freese is on the DL, but Wigginton could still provide the lost power that Freese supplied. In either case, the Cardinals would love to still have Freese at 3rd for Opening Day, but they will have to settle with smeo
