The Brewers announced that they have fired manager Ron Roenicke.
This comes following a horrendous 7-18 start in which the Brewers have fallen far into the depths of the National League. They are already 11 1/2 games out of the National League Central and 6 1/2 out of the National League Wild Card race. The 58-year-old has been managing the Brewers since 2011 and had led them to a 341-331 record in that time. Roenicke led the Brewers to the postseason in his first year at the helm in 2011, as the team went 96-66 en route to the NL Central crown. They were eliminated by the Cardinals in the National League Championship series. On March 22, 2014, the Brewers announced that they had picked up Roenicke's club option for 2015 and added a club option for 2016. He still could have been relieved of his duties following this season. "This has been a difficult start to the season, something that we certainly didn't anticipate," Brewers president of baseball operations Doug Melvin said in a press release. "Over roughly the last 100 games, we have not performed at the level that we should. It's all about wins and losses, and after the first month of play this year we didn't see the progress and improvement we had hoped for. We appreciate all that Ron has done for our organization, and he has handled his duties with great professionalism and dedication. The reasons for our disappointing start are many, but we determined that it's in the best interests of the club to make this move."
The Brewers have hired Craig Counsell to become their next manager, a report said. Counsell, 44, was a 16 year MLB veteran and was a fan favorite during his six years in Milwaukee. He is well-liked by the front office.

The Milwaukee Brewers are letting teams know that they are open to trade proposals, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reported yesterday.
Following a horrific 7-18 start, the Brewers do have plenty of movable pieces and are shaping up to be sellers at the Trade Deadline, with some of their pieces likely earning them better returns than others. Four Brewers players are slated to become free agents following the 2015 season, as those are most likely to be dealt. Aramis Ramirez (who is likely to retire), Kyle Lohse, Gerardo Parra, and Neal Cotts are the Brewers' 2015 free agents, all of whom could find themselves on other clubs in August. More attractive possible trade candidates come in the likes of Carlos Gomez, Jonathan Lucroy, and even Matt Garza. Gomez and Lucroy have favorable contracts considering their performances, while Garza is locked up for the next two seasons for $12.5 million each. It is unknown whether the Brewers would move Gomez or Lucroy and likely would only do so if they got an extremely favorable deal. With Garza's contract in considerations, he's proabably more likely to be moved than the former two. The Brewers 2015 Opening Day payroll was an estimated $104.3 million. This Trade Deadline will likely bring that down as they unload some expensive players and begin to retool or rebuild. --Devan Fink |
