The Seattle Mariners and catcher John Buck have agreed to a Major League contract, reports stated Tuesday. Buck's deal will be over the next year and worth $1 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Buck, 33, started in 101 games at catcher last season between the Pirates and Mets. In his 110 total games, Buck hit .219/.285/.362/.648 with an OPS+ of 84. He provides power from the right side of the plate. Expect Buck to battle for the Mariners top catching spot in 2014, but do not be surprised if he settles into a pinch hitter's role.
