Manager and GM news: Blue Jays, Padres, Marlins

Here is the latest news regarding managers and general managers around the league.

• ​It was reported early Thursday morning that Blue Jays' general manager Alex Anthopoulos had declined a five-year contract extension from the club. Toronto had since announced the move. With a new president of baseball operations in Mark Shapiro joining Toronto's front office, Anthopoulos allegedly would not have received the duty to make the final decisions regarding player management. That could have possibly been the reason for his departure.
• The Padres announced the hiring of ex-Diamondbacks third base coach Andy Green to be their next manager. The 38-year-old Green will be one of the youngest managers in Major League Baseball. He received a three-year deal. Green was not a reported finalist as of last evening. Ron Gardenhire, who was the runner up, and Rick Sofield were those two that were thought to be the possible manager.
• The Marlins have relieved general manager Dan Jennings of his duties, the Miami Hearld first reported Thursday evening. This continues a plethora of changes for the team, including the reported addition of manager Don Mattingly. Jennings had an interesting role with Miami, serving as the GM from the 2013 offseason on. However, this season, he served as interim manager after the team fired Mike Redmond. President of baseball operations Michael Hill will take on Jennings' former responsibilities.
