Two extensions were signed on Saturday.
- The Pirates extended both GM Neal Huntington and manager Clint Hurdle to three-year deals each. Both Huntington and Hurdle were huge parts in the Pirates' postseason run in 2013. This was the Pirates first appearance in the playoffs since 1992. By drafting young talent such as Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, and Pedro Alvarez, the Pirates have brought themselves among the best teams in the National League.
- The Rays extended infielder Yunel Escobar on a two-year, $13 million deal. Escobar, a lifetime .278 hitter, posted a 98 OPS+ in 153 games with the Rays in 2013. He has a career 23.3 WAR (3.3 WAR in 2013) and a career 9.6 dWAR (1.4 dWAR in 2013). His overall play will give the Rays yet another bargain on their roster.
