The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to sign outfielder Colby Rasmus Monday, according to media reports.
Rasmus and the Rays agreed to a one-year contract worth around $5 million. Incentives in the contract could push the contract up to around $7 million. Rasmus is coming off of a down season with the Houston Astros after he bet on himself last offseason by taking their one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer. Unfortuantely for him, it did not appear to pay off, as he has to rebuild value now in Tampa Bay.

The Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles announced a trade on Friday.
Seattle acquired right-handed starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo from Baltimore in exchange for outfielder Seth Smith. To help pay Gallardo's contract, it is expected that Seattle will recieve about $2 million in the deal. The trade fills theoretical needs for both sides. The Mariners have been looking for a back-of-the-rotation starter with some upside like Gallardo, while the Orioles have searched for a corner hitting outfielder with some power, and Smith certainly fits the bill.
The Oakland Athletics have agreed to sign outfielder Rajai Davis on Tuesday, according to media reports.
The sides agreed to a one-year, $6 million pact that can include a potential $450,000 in performance bonuses. Davis should hit at the top of the order in Oakland and start at center field, which was perhaps their top need heading into the 2017 season. In fact, Athletics' center fielders posted the worst fWAR in the Majors last year with a -1.4 mark. |
